Driving the 2020 MX-5 Miata Club is a pleasure! It is fast, cute, sporty coupe-style, loud, and powerful! A lot of great design and fashion in the inside and outside of the unique Miata.  The Club trim model I am driving is the middle trim within the three available Miata models, with a very reasonable price around $30K.

The front and rear curvy coupe design of the Miata combined with the soft black cloth convertible top looks very attractive.  The two-passenger two-door sports Miata is fun to drive and it will always look good no matter the occasion and no matter where you park or drive.  When driving this compact roadster you can park next to a luxury Mercedes Coupe, or next to a fancy Italian Lamborgini and your Miata always will stand up.

The Miata is one of these cars that are so unique and cute that it is almost impossible to compare it to any other car.  Mazda keeps producing and selling the Miata after several years. The Mazda MX-5 Miata has maintained its popularity in the automotive market for over 30 years.

the 2020 MX-5 Miata Club

The fantastic Miata MX-5 has a similar design to classic compact European sports roadsters from the 60s, like the Triumph Spitfire, MG MGB, Datsun 2000, Fiat 124 Sport Spider, Alfa Romeo Spider, and the Lotus Elan.  For those who like a brand new car but with a classic style and design the Miata is a perfect solution and the low price starting around $27K for the MX-5 Miata Sport gives you one more reason to buy it.

Mazda tells us that the MX-5 is the best-selling roadster of all times. The MX-5 has been able to obtain the Guinness World Record for best-selling sports car several times.

Besides many enhancements, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are finally available in your new 2020 Miata.

Fuel Economy

Considering its fast 181 hp engine and 16 valves with 4 cylinders, the MX-5 Miata has good fuel economy with a 29 MPG average consumption.  Especially on the highway, I can enjoy driving 34 miles with just one gallon of gas! great for our gas budget.

the 2020 MX-5 Miata Club

The fantastic Miata was born to stay

The Miata MX-5 was originally created as a small roadster, with lightweight and minimal mechanical complexity, modern and reliable. The Miata was born to stay!

Today the Miata continues to be reborn with a new look, technology, and style that make it a very attractive compact convertible with a classic look, but a great new body.

The Miata has been loved by many car experts and drivers through generations. Love at first sight started since its debut in 1989 at the Chicago Auto Show. The Miata is manufactured by Mazda in Japan.

Mazda’s mission on the MX-5 is to provide drivers with the passion of driving a pure, lightweight sports car.

Some of the elements that contribute to the success of the Miata are its fairly economical fuel consumption, dynamic control, lightning-fast acceleration, fantastic design, and numerous amenities.

2020 MX-5 Miata

The 2020 Mazda MX-5 Miata is available in three trim models: Sport, Club, and Grand Touring. Each of the three Miata models has a six-speed manual transmission, a 181-horsepower four-cylinder engine, and rear-wheel drive.  I am test driving the MX-5 Club and it is a fantastic model.

The main differences between the three Miata trim levels are in the interior design and some additional packages/options.

Trims and Pricing

  • Mazda MX-5 Miata Sport   $26,580 Starting MSRP
  • Mazda MX-5 Miata Club (the model I am test driving)   $30,290 Starting MSRP
  • Mazda MX-5 Grand Touring   $31,670 Starting MSRP

Engine and Performance

The MX is powerful for its size with 181 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm.

The 2020 MX-5 Miata engine includes new technologies in its SKYACTIV-G 2.0 engine, including lighter pistons and freer breathing exhaust. Its transmission employs a new lightweight, dual-mass flywheel.

The transmission for the Miata is available as a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters for better control.

Exterior style

The MX-5 Club I am driving comes with a soft top. I like the classic and elegant look of the soft top.

The Miata Soft top is very classy and glamorous, it implies high-class level and classic beauty. The soft material cabriolet merged with the curvy unique design of the Miata, creates a wonderful effect on the eye of the viewer watching the Miata riding smoothly and with style on the road.

The Miata has a very sporty and athletic exterior design, matched by a black cloth soft top, 16-inch Metallic Black aluminum alloy wheels, silver dual exhaust outlets, and LED headlights and taillights.

Mazda’s brand new trend is to be more premium, and the Miata receives updated new Mazda badging, fonts, and new key fob design towards this new premium look.

Interior style

The MX-5 Club looks luxurious on the inside, equipped with heated black cloth-trimmed seats with silver stitching, 17-inch Metallic Black aluminum alloy wheels, front black air dam, black rear lip spoiler, and black interior accents, and vinyl leather creating a very fashionable sporty interior cabin.

Several new interior features make the Miata MX-5 a modern car, like the Mazda Connect infotainment system with seven-inch full-color, touchscreen display, AM/FM six-speaker audio system including driver’s side headrest speakers, HD Radio, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, a rearview camera, removable dual cup holders, shift knob and parking brake, Mazda Advanced keyless entry, dual USB audio inputs, push-button start, power locks, power windows with a one-touch down feature, and finally for 2020 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Bose Premium 9-speaker audio system with AudioPilot, driver and passenger headrest speakers, and subwoofer. The Bose nine-speaker system provides great sound and it is paired with a sophisticated navigation system operated through a 7-inch touch screen or a central console quadrant controller. Voice commands are accessed through a button on the steering wheel and include standard commands for making phone calls, navigating to destinations, and moving through music selections.

Safety Features

For 2020, MX-5 Miata Club includes several safety features like Rearview Camera, dual front airbags and side-impact airbags, Smart City Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and Engine immobilizer

For drivers looking for a compact sports roadster car at a low price near $30K, the Miata MX-5 offers a unique combination of coupe and convertible attributes with the backup of a 30-year brand name.
