2022 Genesis G70 RWD 3.3T Sport Prestige

I am test driving the Genesis 2020 G70, rear wheel drive, 3.3 Turbo Sports Sedan with Prestige, Package produced by the South Korean luxury brand Genesis.  A beautiful fast luxury sports sedan with the great style and quality of Genesis.

The Genesis G70 has a clean, coupe-like shape, without suffering from the excesses of design elements that other automakers are showing off.

The Genesis G70 is a compact executive luxury car with aerodynamic design and high-performance level that makes this luxury sedan very attractive and competitive in a high-end segment of luxury cars.

The G70 a great creation of the luxury brand genesis. It is the entry-level model in the luxury sedan lineup. Genesis is the luxury brand from Hyundai, just like Lexus is the luxury brand from Toyota, or Infinity from Nissan, Hyundai also decided to produce very luxury cars under their premium brand: Genesis. Genesis cars are definitely premium and impressive.

One could compare Genesis to Mercedes Benz or other high-end brands with the quality of materials, design, details, excellent performance and premium details everywhere. The G70 is a fresh model and seriously competes with the BMW 3 Series, as well as the Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

The G70 is an emerging player in the luxury sedan segment with heavyweight competitors, such as the Audi A4, the BMW 3 Series, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Alfa Romeo Giulia, the Infiniti Q50 and the Lexus IS.

The Genesis sedan is an example of the brand’s bargain pricing, several thousand dollars cheaper than its German rivals. Not to mention its standard 10-year warranty package, which is more than double of what most luxury cars offer.

On the outside the Genesis G70 reminds me in some details the two other Genesis models, the G90 and G80. The front grille of this sedan features the signature Genesis design, with functional air intakes on the bottom and sides. LED headlights work with separate daytime running lights.

The back of the G70 includes a sports pillar, which is framed by rear LED headlights and a double muffler, producing an elegant but aggressive look in the rear.

Driving the G70 3.3 Turbocharged makes you want to push the accelerator. The precision and quality performance of the G70 makes driving a pleasure. It is luxurious, elegant, modern, and very fast! The G70’s low center of gravity produces great wide sports feel.

The G70 signature grille together with the real sporty dual exhaust tips enhances the Sports look of this Genesis.

The cockpit is clear and bright, with excellent quality, easy to view.  The dashboard of this sedan includes nice sporty details, exquisite materials, cutting-edge screens, and easy to access controls.

The G70 Sport Prestige that I am driving brings nearly all of the high-end features that the Genesis has, including a head-up display, upgraded Brembo brakes, a 360-degree exterior camera system, Nappa leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and a deluxe microfiber headliner

Trims and Pricing for the 2022 Genesis G70

Pricing for Genesis goes parallel with the great low pricing of Hyundai cars. Celebrating the rebirth of the Genesis G70, the brand decided to produce a limited-production Launch Edition Featuring shape-defining matte exterior paint, lightweight 19-inch alloy wheels and an exclusive interior that enhances the beautiful design of the G70.

Genesis gives you a very luxury and fast sedan with a price range from $37K to $54K. Buying a Genesis is a great investment, you pay low price but get a luxury car with a long term warranty.

New for the G70 in 2022

For the 2022 model year, the G70, which is the brand’s smallest and sportiest luxury sedan, receives a complete redesign, following in the footsteps of other cars in the Genesis brand, the G80 and G90 sedans and the GV80 SUV.

The driver-oriented cab of the new G70 has received a number of useful improvements. The larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system is positioned for easy reach in the center of the dashboard and features both a Genesis-exclusive user interface and over-the-air navigation updates. The instrument cluster has also been enlarged to provide better readability, and the wireless smartphone charger has been improved to provide faster charging speeds.

Also, the soundproof windshield and front doors increase the silence in the cabin, making the already inviting environment more serene for everyone.

The powerful engine 2.0-litre turbocharged G70 inline-four and 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, and the 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine stay in the new model.

All new G70 models benefit from the newly added “Sport+” driving mode, which further streamlines performance, engine and transmission programming, allowing drivers to take full advantage of the G70’s fast potential.

Also, the 3.3-liter V6 with the Sport package now includes a variable exhaust valve system that gives the G70 sedan a more aggressive exhaust character, while a new dynamic all-wheel drive system offers a built-in aggressive drift mode.

Engine and Performance

The base engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, making 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Adds a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 engine that makes 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are powered by an eight-speed automatic transmission and can be had in rear or four-wheel drive.

The G70 with the V6 engine brings power that produces prodigious torque without having to work very hard. It makes driving around town and merging onto highways a joy. It has plenty of power at high rpm. Automatic transmission tuning is smooth.

On city streets and highways, the passive suspension gives way to minimal body roll and handles transitions with aplomb. But the G70’s chassis could use a bit more refinement. Driving on rougher roads produces occasional bumps and vibrations in the car.

Steering is just about perfect for a sedan that will serve as both a daily driver and occasional backcountry explorer.

The G70’s ride quality is generally smooth, and thanks to electronically adjustable suspension dampers, it can be comfortable for everyday driving, then taut and controlled for more enthusiastic driving. On all routes, the G70 handling is exceptional, tuned by Genesis like its German competition.

interior style

The interior of the Genesis is both simple, luxury and elegant, without being sophisticated in its presentation. It looks modern and detailed in every corner, with elegant diamond stitching on the front and rear seats.

In both look and feel, the G70 exudes quality and attention to detail. It feels just as well built as its rivals. The surfaces are soft to the touch, the decorative stitching, aluminum piping and comfortable, generously bolstered seats keep passengers comfortably in place.

Front seat passengers will enjoy ample space and adjustability from the seats. Passengers over 6 feet tall will find themselves a bit short on rear legroom. The rear seats offer above-average support, but are better suited to smaller passengers.

The G70 provides just 10.5 cubic feet of trunk space, which is one of the lowest totals in the small luxury car class. However, the rear seats fold flat to help transport large items. A hands-free boot lid comes standard.

10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty

It is wonderful to buy a new car, but it is more wonderful when your new car comes with the peace of mind of a long extended warranty to protect your investment in the long run.

The G70 Genesis comes with a generous 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty.

Additionally, this Genesis luxury sedan includes Enhanced Roadside Assistance and Concierge Services, including tire changes or transportation to the nearest Genesis dealership or authorized service facility and reimbursement.

Complimentary Service Valet will collect the G70 to service it and offer a courtesy replacement meanwhile, during the first three years or 36,000 miles of ownership.

The most appealing update in in-car technology from the G70 is the new 10.25-inch central touchscreen. It’s a huge improvement over the previous unit, which looked too low and aggregated. The new unit features an attractive widescreen format and good usability thanks to sharp-looking graphics and a simple menu structure. It’s also better integrated into the dash and looks a lot less sticky than last year’s G70. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration is standard, as is navigation.

In terms of safety, it comes with all the airbags you need, blind-spot monitoring, stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert equipped on every G70. On the advanced driver aids front, new G70 features include Highway Driving Assist, which uses lane centering and adaptive cruise control to smooth out longer highway journeys. Collision avoidance for rear cross traffic and blind spots, and navigation-based cruise. control capable of automatically reducing the speed of your car for the next curves.
